Tribulus macropterus is a species of flowering plant in the family Zygophyllaceae. It is native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it has been found growing in sandy areas and coastal regions. Studies have reported its presence in various locations throughout the country, often associated with saline soils and tolerant of high temperatures and drought conditions.
Observations were made of Tribulus macropterus var. arabicus in Maszhabiya (Al Mashabiya) Reserve near Abu Samra, Southern Qatar, from January to April. The plant was found growing in various habitats, including sandy areas, windblown sand, and at the foot of limestone cliffs. It was observed blooming throughout the period, with yellow flowers present. The plant was often found solitary, but also grew in small groups. It was able to thrive in harsh conditions, including high winds and dry soil. The observations highlight the adaptability and resilience of Tribulus macropterus var. arabicus in the desert environment of Southern Qatar. Overall, the plant was widely distributed and abundant in the reserve, with its blooming period lasting for several months. Its ability to grow in different habitats makes it a notable species in the region.
