Fagonia ovalifolia is a desert shrub that belongs to the Zygophyllaceae family. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy dunes and rocky outcrops, tolerating high temperatures and drought conditions. Studies have reported its presence in various regions of Qatar, including the north and central parts of the country. The plant's small leaves and stems are adapted to conserve water, allowing it to thrive in Qatar's arid environment. Local research has also highlighted the potential medicinal properties of Fagonia ovalifolia, with some studies suggesting its use in traditional Qatari medicine for treating various ailments.
Observations of Fagonia ovalifolia in Qatar were made in various locations and times. In February 2014, a seedling was found on sand in Jebel Al-Nakhsh, south-western Qatar. Later, in April 2015, the plant was spotted in windblown sand on the roadside of Salwa Road in Rawdat Ekdaim, southern Qatar. Similar sightings were made in March 2016, with a plant and a blooming plant found in windblown sand on the same road, but in the area of Khashem Al Nekhsh. Another observation was made in April 2016, where the plant was seen growing on a gravel plane in Harrarah (Al Kharrarah), southern Qatar. These observations suggest that Fagonia ovalifolia can thrive in various environments, including sand and gravel, in southern Qatar. The plant's ability to bloom in these conditions was also noted.
