Crassina angustifolia, Crassina linearis, Zinnia linearis
Narrowleaf zinnia
Zinnia angustifolia (Z. linearis) is a herbaceous flowering plant species of zinnia native to northern and western Mexico and natralized in parts of the Southwestern United States. Hybrids with other Zinna species are popular garden plants.
Zinnia angustifolia is an annual flowering plant native to Mexico and Central America. In Qatar, it is cultivated as an ornamental plant due to its drought tolerance and vibrant flowers. It has narrow leaves (as the name "angustifolia" suggests) and produces small, single-petaled flowers in shades of orange, yellow, and white. In Qatari gardens, Zinnia angustifolia thrives in well-drained soil and full sun, requiring minimal watering, making it an ideal choice for the country's arid climate.
Observations of Zinnia angustifolia in Qatar revealed vibrant orange flowers blooming on the Corniche promenade in Doha. The plants were thriving, with multiple blooms observed on June 18, 2015. A closer look at individual flowers showed intricate details and a bright orange color. The narrowleaf zinnias were planted along the promenade, adding a pop of color to the area. The observations suggest that Zinnia angustifolia can tolerate the hot Qatari climate, as they were blooming vigorously in mid-June. Overall, the plants appeared healthy and well-maintained, with no visible signs of stress or disease. The orange flowers were a striking feature of the promenade's landscaping.
