Zaleya pentandra is a succulent plant species native to tropical and subtropical regions. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in coastal areas, particularly on sandy dunes and salt flats. Studies have shown that Zaleya pentandra is tolerant of high salinity and temperature fluctuations, allowing it to thrive in Qatar's arid environment. It is considered an invasive species in some parts of the world, but its impact on Qatar's ecosystem is still being researched. Local conservation efforts aim to monitor and manage its spread while preserving the country's native flora.
Zaleya pentandra was observed growing in silty depressions in Northern Qatar, specifically in Al Nuaman near Zubara, where it formed prostrate plants with woody stems and produced fruits and flowers. The plant was also found in Southern Qatar, in Trainah, along roadsides, where it had trailing shoots and branches with fruits. In different locations, the plant's growth habit varied, with some plants having a sprawling habit, while others were more upright. Flowers of Zaleya pentandra were observed in various locations, including Al Nuaman, Trainah, and Al Magdah farms, and were often backlit, showcasing their delicate structure. The plant was also spotted in urban areas, such as Al Lejbailat in Doha, where it grew on streets and produced flowers. Overall, Zaleya pentandra appears to be a widespread species in Qatar.
