Traganum acuminatum
Dumran
Grows in sand at foot of sandstone hills and on slopes of the hills.
Traganum nudatum is a succulent shrub native to North Africa and the Middle East. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in coastal salt flats and sandy areas, tolerating high salinity and extreme temperatures. It produces small white flowers and has adapted to the country's arid conditions. Local studies have documented its presence in various regions of Qatar, highlighting its ability to thrive in harsh environments.
The plant Traganum nudatum (local name dumran) was observed in the Maszhabiya (Al Mashabiya) Reserve near Abu Samra, Southern Qatar, on multiple dates from April to June 2016. The plant was found growing under limestone cliffs, on slopes, and on sand dunes. Observations included close-ups of leaves, twigs, fruits, and shoots, as well as views of entire bushes. The plants were described as greyish or white, with succulent leaves. Some observations noted the plant's growth in sandy areas below hills or on limestone rocks. The condition of the plants varied, with some appearing healthy and others almost dry. Overall, the observations provide a detailed record of Traganum nudatum's appearance and growth habits in its natural habitat in Qatar.
