Seidlitzia rosmarinus, also known as glasswort or samphire, is a succulent shrub that grows in saline environments. In Qatar, it has been found to thrive in coastal areas, particularly in salt flats and mangrove swamps. Studies have shown that Seidlitzia rosmarinus is tolerant of high salinity levels and can survive in areas with limited freshwater availability, making it a common sight in Qatar's arid coastal regions. Its presence in these areas helps to stabilize the soil and provide habitat for various wildlife species.
Seidlitzia rosmarinus was observed growing on sand dunes and mounds near Sealine Beach Resort in southern Qatar. The plant was found in various locations, including near Mesaieed, with observations made over several dates from March 2014 to May 2016. It was seen growing in sandy areas, emerging from the sand, and forming bushes on sand mounds. The habitat of Seidlitzia rosmarinus was noted to be sand mounds, with observations of the plant's growth pattern and surrounding environment made at different times of day, including sunrise. The plant was also observed in relation to nearby landmarks, such as Sealine Beach Resort, with views to the north-west and south-east. Overall, Seidlitzia rosmarinus appears to be well-adapted to the sandy environment near Mesaieed.
