Picridium intermedium, Picridium vulgare, Reichardia picroides, Sonchus intermedius
May be a different species.
Reichardia intermedia is an annual herb native to the Mediterranean region and Western Asia. In Qatar, it has been found growing in sandy and saline areas, often in coastal regions and salt flats. It blooms from February to April, producing small yellow flowers. The plant's presence in Qatar indicates a tolerance for high temperatures, salinity, and drought, adapting to the country's arid environment. Local findings suggest that Reichardia intermedia is a relatively common species in Qatar's flora, particularly in areas with disturbed or open soil.
Reichardia intermedia was observed growing in various locations in Qatar, including Green Circles (center-pivot irrigation) in Irkhaya Farms and on Al Istiqlal Street in Onaiza area, Doha. The plant was found to be blooming from October to April, with dandelion-like flowers that attracted hoverflies and butterflies, such as the Blue Pansy. The flowers were yellow in color and had a distinctive shape, with flower buds forming before blooming. The plant grew among other vegetation, including burr weed and prostrate spurge, and was able to thrive in irrigated areas. Observations were made over several months, with multiple sightings of the plant in different locations, allowing for a detailed documentation of its growth and flowering habits.
