Cullen plicata, Psoralea odorata, Psoralea plicata
Hama, Jhil
Psoralea plicata is a perennial legume native to South Africa. In Qatar, it has been naturalized and can be found growing in coastal areas, sandy dunes, and saline flats. It thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, often forming dense mats. The plant produces small, blue-purple flowers and has pinnate leaves with 3-5 leaflets. Psoralea plicata is a relatively common sight in Qatar's arid landscapes, particularly during the winter months when it blooms.
Psoralea plicata was observed in the south-west of Doha, near Karaana, on April 23, 2014. The plant was also found in Umm Houtah, Southern Qatar, on January 16, 2015, where its flowers were noted to be in bloom. On the same day, observations in Umm Houtah revealed that Psoralea plicata produced both flowers and fruits, indicating that the plant was at a mature stage of development. The local names for the plant, "hama" and "Jhil", were also recorded during these observations. These findings suggest that Psoralea plicata is able to thrive in Qatar's environment, producing reproductive structures such as flowers and fruits. The plant's presence was documented in different locations and times, providing insight into its growth habits and distribution in the region.
