Carruthers falseface
Grows only in parks as planted bushes.
The Carruthers' falseface, (Pseuderanthemum carruthersii), is a species of plant in the Acanthaceae family. It is endemic to Asia.
Pseuderanthemum carruthersii, also known as the Yellow-Eyed False Eranthemum or Carruthers' False Eranthemum, is an evergreen shrub native to tropical regions. In Qatar, it has been naturalized and can be found growing wild in certain areas. This plant features dark green leaves with pointed tips and produces small, delicate white flowers with yellow centers. It thrives in warm temperatures and well-drained soil, making it adaptable to Qatar's arid climate.
Observations of Pseuderanthemum carruthersii in Qatar reveal that the plant produces white flowers with pink specks. These flowers were spotted in Al Shamal City Park, specifically in Ruwais, Northern Qatar. On April 3, 2015, and again on January 16, 2016, the flowers were observed, indicating that the plant blooms at different times of the year. The consistent appearance of white flowers with pink specks suggests that this is a characteristic feature of Pseuderanthemum carruthersii in Qatar's environment. The plant was found to thrive in the park's conditions, allowing for repeated observations over time. The similar appearance of the flowers on both occasions also suggests that the plant may be adaptable to varying environmental conditions in Northern Qatar.
