Polycarpon succulentum is a succulent annual herb native to tropical and subtropical regions. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy and rocky areas, often in disturbed habitats. It is characterized by its small size, fleshy leaves, and tiny white flowers. The plant thrives in hot and dry conditions, making it well-suited to Qatar's arid climate. Local studies have reported its presence in various parts of the country, including coastal and inland areas, highlighting its adaptability to different environments within Qatar.
Polycarpon succulentum plants were observed growing on dunes and rocky ridges in Northern Qatar. They were found to be small, flat, and mat-like, with dark leaves and flower buds. The plants were seen in various environments, including sandy dunes and rocky areas, and were able to thrive in these conditions. In some cases, the plants had a yellowish tint, possibly due to dew or other environmental factors. The observations took place over several weeks, from February 9 to March 19, 2016, and showed that the plants were able to survive and grow in the desert environment of Northern Qatar. The plants were often found in sand, and were able to form mats and shoots, indicating their ability to adapt to the local conditions.
