Coleus pentheri
Spurflower, Swedish Ivy
Plectranthus pentheri is a species of flowering plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae). In Qatar, it has been found to be a rare and introduced species, likely naturalized through human activity. It is an annual or short-lived perennial herb with aromatic leaves and purple flowers. The plant thrives in shaded areas with moist soil, such as wadis and urban gardens. Further research is needed to fully understand its distribution and ecological role in Qatar's unique environment.
The Plectranthus pentheri was observed blooming in parks at Al Markhiya Street and Al Intisar Street in Doha, Qatar on multiple occasions, including May 26, 2015, December 3, 2015, April 28, 2016, and May 4, 2016. The plant's succulent leaves were also noted during the December 3, 2015 observation. Close-up photographs of the flowers were taken on December 3, 2015, providing a detailed view of the plant's blooms. The plant was found in different locations within the parks, including near corners with Onaiza and Al Istiqlal streets. The observations suggest that Plectranthus pentheri is able to thrive in Qatar's climate and can be found in urban park settings. The plant's ability to bloom at different times of the year, including May and December, indicates its adaptability to various environmental conditions.
