Parkinsonia aculeata, also known as Jerusalem thorn or Mexican palo verde, is a spiny, deciduous tree native to the Americas. In Qatar, it has been naturalized and is commonly found in coastal and inland areas. Studies have reported its presence in various regions of Qatar, including the northeastern coast and central desert areas. It thrives in well-drained soils and can tolerate high temperatures and salinity, making it a hardy species in Qatar's arid environment.
Parkinsonia aculeata has been observed blooming in various locations in Qatar, including the Education City campus in Doha on March 11, 2010. It has also been spotted growing on roadsides, such as on the road to Mesaieed, where it was seen with narrow leaves on March 4, 2016. The plant has been found in parks as well, including Qatar University, where it was observed on April 25, 2016, with flowers present. In all locations, the plant appears to be thriving, suggesting its adaptability to Qatar's environment. Observations were made during different times of the year, indicating that the plant blooms and grows throughout various seasons in Qatar. The presence of flowers and narrow leaves was noted in multiple observations, providing insight into the plant's characteristics in this region.
