Ononis serrata, also known as the Serrated Restharrow, is a perennial legume native to the Mediterranean region. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy and gravelly areas, often in association with other desert plants. Studies have reported its presence in various parts of the country, including the northern and central regions. The plant's adaptability to Qatar's arid environment is notable, with its deep taproot allowing it to access water deep in the soil. Local findings suggest that Ononis serrata plays a role in stabilizing sand dunes and providing habitat for local wildlife.
The plant Ononis serrata was observed in various locations in Qatar, including the entrance of Umm Bab in south-western Qatar and on the rocky ridge of Jebel Fuwairit in Northern Qatar. In February 2014, it was seen at the entrance of Umm Bab with and without flowers. Two years later, in March 2016, it was spotted on a rocky road on Jebel Fuwairit, as well as on the rocky ridge itself. The plant was also photographed against a white background to provide a clearer view of its features. These observations suggest that Ononis serrata can thrive in Qatar's rocky and dry environments, and can be found in different regions of the country. The plant's presence was documented through photographs, providing a visual record of its appearance and habitat in Qatar. Its ability to grow on rocky roads and ridges is notable.
