Pearl plant, qardi, Qurdi, Taily Weed
Ochradenus baccatus, also known as the Pearl Plant, is a shrub native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it is found in coastal and inland areas, often growing on sandy or rocky soils. Research in Qatar has shown that Ochradenus baccatus is tolerant of high temperatures, drought, and saline conditions, making it well adapted to the country's arid environment. Studies have also identified its potential medicinal properties, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The plant's presence in Qatar highlights the country's unique biodiversity and the importance of preserving its natural habitats.
The plant Ochradenus baccatus was observed in various locations throughout Qatar between 2010 and 2016. The observations were made in different regions, including Ras Abrouq peninsula, Abu Samra Road, Dukhan, Al Luqta Street, and Ash-Shahaniyah. The plant was found to produce yellow flowers and white berries, and was often seen growing as a bush or large shrub. Insects such as flies and beetles were observed visiting the flowers. The observations were made during different times of the year, with blooming and fruiting occurring in February, March, April, and December. Overall, the observations suggest that Ochradenus baccatus is a common and widespread plant species in Qatar, found in a variety of habitats including deserts, roadsides, and wadis.
