Lotus ehrenbergii
Hawrbeith
Lotus glinoides is a small, annual legume native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it has been found growing in sandy and gravelly areas, often in association with other desert plants. It produces small, pink or purple flowers and has compound leaves with 3-5 leaflets. The plant is adapted to the arid conditions of the Qatari desert, where it can be found in areas with low vegetation cover.
Lotus glinoides was observed near Zekreet in western Qatar on March 3, 2014, with flowers and fruits present in a salt marsh. The plant formed a central hub, indicating its growth habit. Similar observations were made on Purple Island (Jazirat Bin Ghanim) in Al Khor, Qatar, on March 7, 2014, where the plant was found with fruits. In Irkhaya Farms, Lotus glinoides was observed growing in depressions on the periphery of Green Circles (center-pivot irrigation) on April 22, 2016, with both flowers and fruits present. The plant was able to grow in these areas, suggesting its ability to thrive in various environments. Multiple observations of the plant's growth and reproduction were recorded, providing insight into its habits and habitats in Qatar. The plant's presence in different locations and conditions highlights its adaptability.
