Lepidium mendocinum, Nasturtium bonariense, Thlaspi bonariense
Argentine peppercress, pepper weed
It may be a different species of Lepidium.
Lepidium bonariense, also known as Argentine peppercress or South American pepperwort, is an annual herb native to South America. In Qatar, it has been reported as a naturalized weed, often found in coastal areas, roadsides, and disturbed habitats. It grows up to 30-50 cm tall, with branching stems, small white flowers, and pungent-tasting leaves. Studies in Qatar have noted its presence in various regions, including Doha and the northern coast, where it thrives in saline soils and can tolerate high temperatures.
Lepidium bonariense was observed growing in various locations in Qatar, including along roadsides and in fields with center-pivot irrigation. It formed rosettes of green leaves and produced seeds, which were found on the plants and on the ground nearby. The plant was seen in western Qatar near Dukhan Road and in south-western Qatar along Salwa Road and in Irkhaya Farms. It grew in a variety of conditions, including roadside depressions and irrigated fields. The plant was observed at different times of year, from March to June, and was found to produce flowers, fruits, and seeds during this period. In Irkhaya Farms, it was seen on Green Circles with center-pivot irrigation, where it grew and produced seeds throughout the year, including in November, January, February, April, May, and June.
