Daa, Dahah, Sewan grass
Lasiurus scindicus, also known as Indian feather grass, is a perennial grass native to tropical Asia. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy areas and coastal dunes. Studies have shown that L. scindicus is a relatively common species in Qatar's flora, particularly in the northern and western regions of the country. It is often associated with other desert plant species, such as Zygophyllum qatarense and Stipagrostis plumosa. The plant's ability to tolerate high temperatures and saline conditions makes it well-suited to Qatar's arid environment.
Observations of Lasiurus scindicus in Qatar reveal that the plant's spikelets and seeds were found in various locations, including Al Kharaitiyat area and Southern Qatar. The spikelets were observed on March 5, 2015, with detailed images taken on white background. In April 2015, the grass was seen growing in windblown sand on roadside of Salwa Road. Fluffy seeds were found on sand dunes in Maszhabiya Reserve near Abu Samra on April 8 and 29, 2016. Notably, an accumulation of fluffy seeds was observed in the same reserve on April 29, 2016, indicating the plant's ability to disperse seeds in sandy environments. The observations suggest that Lasiurus scindicus is adapted to grow in sandy areas and can thrive in Qatar's desert conditions. The plant's seeds are able to accumulate in sand dunes, allowing for further propagation.
