Pennsylvania Everlasting, Wandering Cudweed
Gnaphalium pensylvanicum, also known as Pennsylvania cudweed, is an annual herb native to North America. In Qatar, it has been naturalized and is considered an invasive species. Studies have reported its presence in various habitats, including roadsides, waste areas, and sandy soils. It is a small, hairy plant with white or yellowish flowers, typically growing up to 30-60 cm tall. Its adaptability to arid environments has allowed it to thrive in Qatar's climate, often forming dense populations and outcompeting native vegetation.
The plant Gnaphalium pensylvanicum was observed in the Onaiza area of Doha, Qatar, on multiple occasions between 2015 and 2016. It was found growing on streets such as Al Jood Street and Ibn Nusaih Street. The plant was observed in various stages, including with flowers, wilted, and with close-up views of its leaves and flowers. Observations were made on different dates, including March 8, 10, 12, 13, 25, 2015, and March 17 and 24, 2016. The plant was also photographed on a white background to provide a clear view of its features. Overall, the observations suggest that Gnaphalium pensylvanicum is a common plant in the Onaiza area of Doha, Qatar. It appears to thrive in urban environments and can be found growing on streets and sidewalks.
