Farsetia arabica
Farsetia heliophila is an annual herb native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy and rocky areas, often in association with other desert plants. It produces small white or yellowish flowers and has a preference for well-drained soils and full sun. Local studies have reported its presence in various regions of Qatar, including the Dukhan and Al Shahaniya areas, where it blooms from February to May.
Farsetia heliophila was observed on the rocky ridges of Jebel Fuwairit in Northern Qatar, with seeds present in December 2014 and fruits visible in January 2015. The plant was also found to have flowers and fruits in March 2016, with grey bushes and large blooming plants noted. In November 2015, an ash grey plant was observed on the rocky ridge. Additionally, a branch of Farsetia heliophila with flowers was found in a runnel north from Dukhan in February 2016. The plant's appearance varied, with some observations noting seeds, fruits, or flowers, while others described the plant's color and size, including large blooming plants and grey bushes. Overall, the observations suggest that Farsetia heliophila is a resilient plant that can thrive in Qatar's rocky terrain. It was also seen in north-eastern Qatar.
