Eremobium aegyptium, sleisla
Eremobium aegyptiacum is an annual herb native to North Africa and the Middle East. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy soils and coastal areas. It is a small, hairy plant with tiny white or yellow flowers that bloom from February to May. Studies in Qatar have reported its presence in various regions, including the northern and western parts of the country, where it thrives in areas with low vegetation cover. Eremobium aegyptiacum is considered a common weed in Qatar's desert ecosystems, often growing alongside other annuals and perennials. Its adaptability to harsh environmental conditions makes it a notable component of Qatar's flora.
Eremobium aegyptiacum was observed in various locations in southern Qatar, including Jebel Al-Nakhsh and Rawdat Ekdaim, between 2014 and 2016. The plant was found growing in windblown sand on roadsides and in sandy areas, often with white flowers and occasionally with blue flowers. Observations were made during different months, including February, March, April, and January, indicating that the plant blooms and produces seeds over an extended period. The plant's growth habits were documented, showing tiny plants with single flowers, as well as larger plants with multiple flowers and seed pods. In some cases, the seed pods were observed to be open, releasing seeds into the windblown sand.
