Eragrostis barrelieri, also known as Barrelier's lovegrass, is an annual grass species native to the Mediterranean region and parts of Asia. In Qatar, it has been found growing in sandy areas, saline flats, and disturbed habitats, such as roadsides and construction sites. It is a relatively small grass that can grow up to 30 cm tall, with delicate, drooping inflorescences and numerous seeds. Studies have reported its presence in various locations across Qatar, including the northern and southern regions of the country.
Annual lovegrass (Eragrostis barrelieri) was observed in various locations in Qatar, including Onaiza area and along roadsides. The plant was found to have visible yellow glands at the nodes on the culm and distinctive spikelets. Observations were made over several months, from April 2015 to April 2016, with the plant present in different stages of growth. In December 2015, flower spikes and flowers were observed, while in February 2016, the plant was found in a roadside depression. The plant was also spotted along roadsides, including Khawzan Road and the road from Khawzan to Al-Jumayliyah, indicating its ability to grow in a variety of environments. Overall, the observations suggest that annual lovegrass is a common and adaptable species in Qatar. It can thrive in different conditions and can be found in various parts of the country.
