Dipterygium glaucum is a desert shrub native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it has been found to thrive in sandy dunes and saline flats. Studies have shown that D. glaucum is tolerant of high temperatures, drought, and salinity, making it well adapted to Qatar's arid environment. It has been recorded in various locations across the country, including the Arabian Gulf coast and inland desert areas. The plant's ability to survive in extreme conditions has led researchers to investigate its potential for use in desert rehabilitation and conservation efforts in Qatar.
Dipterygium glaucum, a desert plant species, was observed in various locations in southern Qatar, including Maszhabiya Reserve and areas near Salwa Road. The plant was found growing in windblown sand, on gravel plains, and near limestone cliffs. Observations were made over several years, from 2015 to 2016, during which time the plants were seen to bloom and produce fruits. The plants were often found in sandy areas, but also grew on stony ground and in wadis. Some observations noted the presence of fresh shoots and dry plants, indicating the species' ability to survive in harsh desert conditions. Overall, the observations suggest that Dipterygium glaucum is a resilient and adaptable plant species that can thrive in a variety of environments in southern Qatar. Its blooming periods were observed in February, March, and April.
