Apple Blossom Tree, Pink Shower, Rainbow Shower Tree
Cassia javanica, also known as Java Cassia, Pink Shower, Apple Blossom Tree and Rainbow Shower Tree (Thai: ชัยพฤกษ์), is a species of tree in the Fabaceae family. Its origin is in Southeast Asia, but it has been extensively grown in tropical areas worldwide as a garden tree owing to its beautiful crimson and pink flower bunches.[+]
Cassia javanica, also known as Java cassia or Apple blossom cassia, is an ornamental flowering tree native to Southeast Asia. In Qatar, where it is cultivated as an exotic species, Cassia javanica thrives in the country's hot and dry climate due to its drought tolerance. It grows up to 10 meters tall with spreading branches, bearing pink to purple flowers in clusters from summer to fall, attracting pollinators. Its compound leaves are typically pinnate, adding to its aesthetic appeal in gardens and landscapes across Qatar. Despite being non-native, Cassia javanica is widely used in landscaping due to its vibrant blooms and relatively low maintenance requirements, adapting well to the Gulf region's conditions.
Observations of Cassia javanica in Qatar reveal that the plant is able to thrive in the country's parks and gardens. In Aspire Park, the pink shower tree was observed on June 25, 2015, with its distinctive flowers on display. A closer look at the flowers revealed their intricate details. The tree was also spotted in Dahl Al Hamam Park on May 3, 2016, indicating that it can grow in different locations within Doha. The plant's ability to bloom in Qatar's climate suggests that it is a relatively hardy species. The observations were made during the spring and early summer months, when the tree is in flower, and provide insight into the growth habits of Cassia javanica in Qatar's urban landscapes. Overall, the plant appears to be well-suited to Qatar's park environments.
