Astragalus kirghisicus, rakhami
Astragalus tribuloides is a perennial legume native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy dunes and gravelly plains, often in areas with low vegetation cover. Studies have reported its presence in various regions of Qatar, including the northern and central parts of the country. The plant's ability to fix nitrogen and tolerate harsh desert conditions makes it a valuable component of Qatar's native flora. However, more research is needed to fully understand its ecological role and distribution within the country.
Astragalus tribuloides was observed growing on dry silt in the area of Ras Laffan farms in Northern Qatar on February 28, 2014. It was also spotted near a road from Dukhan to Al Jumayliyah in Western Qatar on March 1, 2014, and near Zekreet in western Qatar on March 3, 2014. Later, it was seen near Al Khor Hospital on December 13, 2014. In 2016, the plant was found with flowers in a large roadside depression near Route 77 to Ras Laffan on February 6, with a rosette of leaves and flowers observed. The plant's ability to grow in various locations and conditions in Qatar is notable, including dry silt and roadside depressions. Its presence was recorded in both northern and western regions of the country over a period of two years.
