Astragalus sieberi is a perennial legume native to the Middle East and North Africa. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in sandy and rocky areas, often in association with other desert plants. Studies have reported its presence in various regions of Qatar, including the northern and central parts of the country. The plant's adaptability to harsh desert conditions makes it a notable species in Qatar's flora.
Astragalus sieberi was observed growing on the periphery of Green Circles (center-pivot irrigation) in Irkhaya Farms, south-western Qatar. The plant was found in sandy depressions and had silvery leaves. Some plants were half dry, while others had green seed pods. Seedlings of Astragalus sieberi were also observed in the same area, indicating successful germination and growth. The plant was seen at different stages of growth, from seedling to mature plant, over several months (March to June). The observations suggest that Astragalus sieberi is able to thrive in the conditions found on the periphery of the Green Circles, where irrigation water may not reach. The presence of seedlings and mature plants in the same area indicates a stable population of the species in this location.
