Khatma
Althaea ludwigii is an annual herb native to Europe and Western Asia. In Qatar, it has been found growing in damp environments, such as along coastlines and near water sources. It blooms from February to May, producing small, pinkish-white flowers. The plant's presence in Qatar suggests adaptation to arid conditions, with some studies indicating its potential use in local traditional medicine.
Althaea ludwigii, locally known as khatma, was observed growing in various locations in Qatar, including silty depressions on roadides and caked mud in depressions. The plant was found in north-western Qatar, near Thaghab Al Majda and Al Nuaman, as well as in northern Qatar, near Al Magdah farms. Observations were made during different times of the year, including February and November, with seedlings spotted in January. The plant's flowers, leaves, and blooming stages were documented, particularly in a roadside depression of Khawzan Road, where it was found to be thriving. The plant's ability to grow in different environments, such as silty and muddy conditions, was noted. Overall, Althaea ludwigii appears to be adaptable to various conditions in Qatar, allowing it to flourish in different areas. Its growth patterns and characteristics were observed and documented in various locations.
