Mesembryanthemum cryptanthum is a succulent plant species. In Qatar, it has been found to grow in coastal areas and saline flats, where it tolerates high salt levels and drought conditions. Its adaptations enable it to thrive in these environments. However, specific details about its distribution, habitat preferences, or conservation status in Qatar may require further research for accurate information.
The plant Mesembryanthemum cryptanthum was observed in Qatar from February 2014 to May 2016. Initially, it was found in the southwestern region near Umm Bab, growing in sandy areas and on roadides. Later observations were made on Purple Island (Jazirat Bin Ghanim) in Al Khor, where the plant was found growing on rocks and in sandy areas. The plant was observed in various stages, including blooming, seedling, and with dry flowers. It often grew alongside Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum. The observations suggest that Mesembryanthemum cryptanthum is adapted to the local environment and can thrive in different conditions. The local name for the plant is "ghasoul". Overall, the observations provide insight into the growth habits and distribution of Mesembryanthemum cryptanthum in Qatar.
